Ah, Motherhood!

            All kinds of thoughts are running through my head this Mother’s Day.

            I remember one of my mother’s favorite hymns. At some point it was recorded by Loretta Lynn with the following refrain:

If I could only hear my mother pray again

If I could only hear her tender voice as thenHow happy I would be with who means so much to meIf I could hear my mother pray again. (Peermusic Ltd.)

She loved that song, and now so do I. It would be wonderful to hear her voice again, to see her smile, to see the twinkle in her eyes. Now, though, I have to – get to - enjoy the memories.

She was absolutely the best mother in the world. I should have told her that. Funny thing is, the more time goes by, the more I experience, the more I realize just how wonderful she really was. We lost her in 2019 just ten days before her 94^th birthday.

If you still have your mother, enjoy her favorite music, her stories, her laughter – just everything about her. One day, it will be too late.

Other thoughts are on my mind on this day. I think of my three children and how I wish I could have been as good a mother to them as Mom was to the five of us. Thank goodness, all three of my children have survived my own motherhood – so far. I am so proud of them. Each one is unique and each is special to me, and I love them dearly. They’ve put up with a lot, and I’m very thankful for that.

            If the nonfiction book I’ve written is ever published, I’m sure each will be embarrassed all over again.

            And there’s one other thing on my mind today. I got a text from my son this morning and it read like this: Happy Mother’s Day? Now, tell me, what’s with the question mark? Did he wonder if this was the right day? Was he not sure he wanted my day to be happy? Or was he questioning whether I’m really his mother after all these years?

            Ah, motherhood!
