AI: Progress? Pollution? Problematic?

Yesterday in our adult Sunday School class, we discussed the environment, AI, progress, and protecting nature’s bounty. In particular, we talked about the large data centers springing up across the country. Are the data centers good or bad? Is there a balance between progress and harming the environment? Concerns include noise pollution, water usage, power usage, heat emission, and more. What are we willing to sacrifice in the name of progress?

Almost always, people involved in the planning and permitting processes are required to sign non-disclosure agreements, so are these data centers practically a done deal before citizens know anything about them?

There are pros and cons to artificial intelligence.

If you have a navigation system in your car, you use AI. If you use Google, you are most likely using AI.

AI is a big issue in the writing/publishing community. Publishers do not want books created by or even generated by AI. Teachers don’t want school assignments completed by AI.

But what about the big issue of the environment? There are people around the world who are thirsty for water. Data centers gobble up our water supplies.

Has God asked us to be stewards of the earth and to share our bounty with those in need?
