Golden Arch?

So, Trump wants his ballroom and he also wants an arch, the latter supposedly to commemorate/celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday.

Most likely, he’ll want both named for him. I mean, doesn’t the man like to have his name on all sorts of things?

In my little ol’ opinion, there’s a lot more we need in this country than that ballroom and the arch. Unfortunately, he’s already had the East Wing demolished to make room for the humongous ballroom. Sure, someone could rebuild the ballroom, but that, too, would be costly.

It’s true that other presidents have made alterations to the White House. In fact, most recent presidents or first ladies have made changes, but none quite so significant as tearing down the East Wing. In Truman’s administration, the entire interior was redone, but that didn’t change the image of the White House exterior. Others have added gardens, swimming pools, a bowling alley, and more.

And then there’s that proposed arch. A golden one or partially gold one at that. According to Merriam-Webster, one of the definitions of an arch is “something that has a curved shape like an arch.”

            Give Trump a sling shot.

If we really want to celebrate our 250th birthday, then let’s take care of our people. Educate our children. Provide health care. Take care of our veterans. Feed the hungry. Address homelessness in a meaningful way.

What better way to honor our founding fathers and the ensuing 250 years than to be sure we have the opportunities for life, liberty and justice for all.
