Killer Nashville

Exciting and almost overwhelming experiences filled the days at Killer Nashville International Writers Conference: workshops about writing suspense, mystery, romance, horror, humor, and more. We had opportunities to meet and to learn from editors, agents, publishers, and fellow writers.

Each day I was inspired to write more, to improve my writing skills, to develop characters more thoroughly, and to just keep on keeping on.

I even got one-on-one feedback from editor John DeDakis, author of two of my very favorite books: Enemies Domestic and Fake.

I participated in agent roundtables with Kristen Terrette, Tommy Dean, and Dean Krystek. The critiques were valuable.

The number of attendees was around 535, including people from New Zealand, Prague, several locations in Great Britain, and, of course, across the United States. We learned from folks with backgrounds in the CIA, FBI, forensics, law, medicine, among others.

Some of the intriguing workshop names: Inside the Detective’s Head; Weaving Conflict Through Every Story Line; Using Music in Crime Fiction; The Phone Always Talks: What Your Devices Confess to a Professional Investigator; and Serial Killers I Have Known and Hated. These sessions were just as fantastic as the names.

I’m ready to write up a storm – and to go back to Killer Nashville next year!
