Writing Up a Storm

So, you think writing is fun, huh?
Well, yes, it is fun. It’s editing, rewriting, querying for agents and/or publishers that’s not so much fun. It’s definitely a learning experience, though.
Maybe there’s an art to getting published, but it’s also absolutely a business. So many of the agents want a platform, i.e. thousands of followers for the author on social media, so, if each person reading this could somehow secure 2000 followers for me on Facebook or subscribers on my website, that would be wonderful! And probably impossible. Somehow, I’ve got to figure out a way to get more people at both places. Any suggestions?
This past Saturday I attended a wonderful one-day writing workshop that was helpful. I learned a lot and had the opportunity to make two live pitches with agents with a maximum of ten minutes each. Now you would think that would be easy. It was not! I was petrified and trembling. I’d rather have a microphone and an audience of 1000 people than to sit across from one agent and pitch a book. For me, this was a nerve-wracking experience – but a learning one.
Later this month, I’ll participate in the Erma Bombeck Writing Workshop in Dayton and then Killer Nashville in, of course, Tennessee late in the summer. The first one ought to help with the humorous nonfiction; the second with the mysteries.
In the meantime, as I write my heart out, how about go out and find 10,000 or more followers/subscribers for me?
Much appreciated, y’all!
