The Best Ever

Today marks what would have been my parents’ 7

9th anniversary.

If life is a lottery, then my four siblings and I won it with these parents. They were THE best, and, oh, how I wish I had told them so.

Every time I want to write something about them, I find that there are not enough words to do so or that simple words can’t capture the essence of them as a couple or of either one individually. You just had to know them, to experience them, to bask in their aura.

Ours was a unique and quirky family, although I didn’t realize that until I was grown. Well, that’s not exactly correct. There were hints all long.

For example, I knew that not every father taught his children how to waterski without a boat but behind a car. I knew that not every mother traveled to Chicago with only one pair of shoes – totally mismatched.

We knew that whatever we learned on Sunday mornings was supposed to be carried with us throughout the week. We learned the importance of a sense of humor. We learned the value of being willing to take risks. And we learned that failure isn’t a permanent roadblock.

I wish they were still here. I love you, Dad and Mom.
